More about Feudi di San Gregorio
Feudi di San Gregorio
Feudi di San Gregorio

Founded in 1986 by two Irpinian families in the town of Sorbo Serpico, Feudi di San Gregorio has become the leading family-owned winery in southern Italy, covering some 300 hectares across over 800 distinct vineyard plots. Featuring volcanic and clay soils shaped by nearby Mount Vesuvius, these vineyards employ a cutting-edge, plot-specific approach—analyzed for elevation, exposure, and slope—to express the diversity of Irpinia’s terroirs. The Capaldo family, led by Antonio since 2009, has transformed the winery into a cultural hub that blends wine, design, and gastronomy.

Feudi di San Gregorio: Irpinia’s Vanguard of Wine, Art & Sustainability

Feudi champions Campania’s indigenous grapes—including Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo, Falanghina, and Aglianico—elevating them into premium expressions of the region. Wines such as the landmark Aglianico “Serpico” (and its bold variant “Taurasi”) are crafted to showcase elegance, depth, and fine tannin structure—earning comparisons to the “Barolo of the South”. Their Greco Cutizzi bottling, drawn from a single elevated cru, is hailed as possibly the most complex Greco in existence, combining minerality, freshness, and impressive length.

Feudi is also a pioneer in sustainable business, having been named a Benefit Corporation in 2021, and in 2022 becoming Italy’s largest winery certified as a B Corp—while also holding Equalitas certification. With initiatives including solar-powered vineyard sensors, water recycling, and low-impact farming practices, the winery strives to protect its environmental, social, and cultural heritage. The estate houses a state-of-the-art cellar capable of holding 5,000 barrels, blending architectural and functional excellence under famed designers like Hikaru Mori and Massimo Vignelli.

Visitors engage in an immersive experience at the Borgo San Gregorio complex: from guided tastings and art-filled cellar tours to dining at the Michelin-starred Marennà and strolls through herb and rose gardens. The winery has also commissioned contemporary artworks and limited-edition bottle labels from artists like Pietro Ruffo and Marinella Senatore, blending wine storytelling with visual culture. Feudi produces modern sparkling wines under the "DUBL" brand—made with Greco di Tufo and Fiano—alongside rosé versions featuring Aglianico, all crafted in the metodo classico style.

Despite exporting to over 50 countries and producing significant volume, Feudi di San Gregorio remains deeply anchored in place, prioritizing old-vine preservation, terroir-driven expression, and cultural innovation. As one Reddit commenter noted, their Serpico Aglianico offers “strong liquorice… ripe red fruit … quite long lasting spice” and is powered by pre-phylloxera vines. In sum, Feudi di San Gregorio is not merely a winery—but a visionary institution where ancient viticultural heritage, ecological responsibility, and design converge into one of Italy’s most respected wine experiences.
