Tenuta San Guido is a distinguished wine estate located in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany, Italy. Established in the 1940s by Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, the estate was initially known for breeding thoroughbred horses, notably the legendary racehorse Ribot. Mario's passion for Bordeaux wines inspired him to plant Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc vines on the estate, leading to the creation of Sassicaia, a wine that would revolutionize Italian winemaking.

Sassicaia, meaning "place of many stones," was first produced for personal consumption in 1948 and remained a family secret for two decades. In 1968, encouraged by his son Nicolò and nephew Piero Antinori, Mario released Sassicaia commercially, marking the birth of the "Super Tuscan" category. The wine's success challenged traditional Italian wine classifications and showcased the potential of international grape varieties in Tuscany.
In 1994, Sassicaia achieved a unique distinction by being granted its own DOC, Bolgheri Sassicaia, the only single-estate appellation in Italy. Today, Tenuta San Guido spans approximately 2,500 hectares, with vineyards occupying only the most suitable plots to ensure optimal grape quality. The estate's commitment to excellence is evident in its meticulous vineyard management and sustainable practices.
Beyond Sassicaia, Tenuta San Guido produces two other wines: Guidalberto, introduced in 2000, and Le Difese, launched in 2002. Guidalberto blends Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, offering a more approachable expression of the estate's style, while Le Difese combines Cabernet Sauvignon with Sangiovese, reflecting a harmonious balance of international and native varieties.
